What you need to know before going to the ER and Hospital: On 11/11/26 from 3:45pm to 4:45pm in the Hagedorn Meeting Room at Port Washington Public Library, Sara Merwin, MPH, will lead a practical session explaining hospital and ER procedures, how to prepare, communicate with staff, promote safety, and advocate for patients and families. Sara Merwin is the coauthor (with Karen A Friedman, MD) of “The Informed Patient: A Complete Guide to a Hospital Stay” (Cornell University Press) and has an MPH in epidemiology from Columbia University School of Public Health; she has worked as a clinical researcher at Northwell Health System and Montefiore Medical Center and held faculty appointments at Zucker Hofstra School of Medicine and Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
